My Kind of Girl

So Alec and his military lovin' self convinced the girls to go out for a Rucksak (not sure if I even spelled that right?) adventure. They had to pack up their backpacks and adventure with him around the yard.

As they were loading up their sacks I heard Alec tell Hanna she could take 3 things. A moment of silence went by. . .

"Okay, my pillow, my lip gloss, and my Bible."

Now, if that girl isn't a chip of the ole' block, I don't know who is.

98. For kids with big imaginations.

99. For kids that all got along well enough for a few hours to play outside.

100. For a yard to play in.

101. For getting to put my final touches on homeschool stuff.

102. For having some time of quiet to listen to "Trinitarianism" for my Wed. night class.

103. For my boy.

104. For the one who looks like me.

105. For the one who wants to be me.

"You Look Like a Homeschooling Mom"

This summer when we were in SSI, we'd heard news that George Bush (apparently SSI is a favorite vacation spot of his) was eating lunch at "4th of May". This is right down the road from Jon's parents' condo. We all quickly changed from our swimsuits into our clothes. Therefore, I just put on a sundress and brushed my hair. No time for makeup or hair products or even. . . high heels!!!

As we patrolled The Village, we had no luck. Couldn't find our former president anywhere. Oh well. . . . guess while we were there we may as well take the kids to the park.

I head over to the see-saw with Hanna. This really nice lady comes up to me and says.

"Are you in the homeschool group?"

Now, I'm apart of many homeschool groups, and I immediately started praying, "Lord, please help me remember this lady's name. I don't recognize her at all."

I smile and say, "Yes, I am."

Here I am thinking she's talking about the homeschool group here in G-town. After all SSI is full of vacationers. As she starts talking I realize that she and I are talking about 2 totally different homeschool groups. They were a local homeschool group meeting up for a play date in the park.

I proceed to apologize to her and tell her I'm from G-town and I thought she was talking about a homeschool group where I'm from. . . blah!blah! blah!

She said, "Well, we were having a play date here at the park and I just started this group. When I saw you I thought you looked like a homeschooling mom."

I told Jon I hope it was not my homely look I had going on (we ALL know the stereotype homeschooling moms have) . . . that it was more the sweet expression on my face. . . . wishful thinking!

That night we were going out either to dinner or the beach (my memory fails me) I had the full get-up on . . . the makeup, hair, accessories galore, a cute outfit, and my heels . . . Jon asked me if I was trying to redeem myself from earlier in the day!!! You betcha!!!!

10 on the 10th

Time for Mer's 10 on the 10th. This month since homeschooling is on my mind, I'm going to tell y'all 10 things that will be new to our homeschooling this year.

First of all let me first say this is our 9th year. Only through God's grace could we all have made it this far without killing one another :) Back in May I decided it was time for a change and BIG TIME change at that. I sold ALL my curricula I have collected over the last 9 years. So, here's what we've got this year.

1. Teaching Textbooks for Math. This is a pretty pricey program, but oh so worth it. The kids do their Math on the computer and the computer grades it!!!! That is the WORST part of homeschooling to me. . . the grading. I'm super-de-dooper excited about this. The computer also teaches the children, so hopefully I'll be very hands off when it comes to Math.

2. Tapestry of Grace. . . wanna talk about getting me organized and keeping me there? This curriculum is going to do all of that and MORE. I'm so very excited about it. My poor printer is probably so tired of ALL the work I've put it through during the last few weeks. There are several other moms who are doing the same curriculum. We're going to get together a couple of times a month and do activities with the children. I'm going to be getting together field trips for all of us. I'm super excited!!!

3. Agendas. I'm not really sure if this is the right word or not. But, on Monday my kiddos will be handed a calender. They will write down what THEY are responsible for doing each day. (this is also part of Tapestry . . . to create independent, self-motivated learners). I know there will be an adjustment period, but right now I am bound and determined not to start school until I have our whole year's worth of lesson plans. Right now I'm on week 18 . . . halfway there!!! I'm like the little engine that could . . ."I think I can, I think I can".

4. Discipleship. This may be the very MOST important thing I'm doing with my children this year. I'm going to disciple them and meet with each one of them individually once a week. Now, we will still have our family devotion at the table during breakfast. We will still do our Bible curriculum of "Firm Foundations". But on Tuesday, I'll meet with Hanna in HER room with no one else. Wednesday the same for Ash. Thursday the same for Alec. If my children are going to be Christ-like, they must know what that looks like. . . how better to teach them than one-on-one discipleship.

5. Tardiness. Yikes that's a pretty scary word for a girl who thinks if you're 15 minutes late, you're still on time. I think it's referred to as fashionably late. Whatever. That won't cut it this school year. The children will have to get themselves up with their own alarm clocks. They will have to be showered, dressed, have already eaten breakfast and cleaned up their mess, and at the kitchen table by 8:00. . . 3 tardies and you get tardy hall. . . which will require a bunch of busy work. I can't take credit for this idea. My friend, Trish, is doing it with her boys this year. I told her I'd be stealin' it.

6. Operation World. Yet another great idea from another great friend, Angela L. I've purchased this book called, "Operation World". In this book there is a country you pray for everyday. You pray for the missionaries. It gives very specific statics . . . like how much a year's salary is worth. We have a big world map in our school room. I bought (well actually Angela bought them for me) some colored push pins. After we pray for our country we will put our pushpin in that country. By the end of the year we will be able to see which countries and how many we prayed for. Feel free to steal. . . I know Angela would love for you to!

7. Grace. I'm a "work before play" kind-of girl. I am pretty disciplined and I think in order to be disciplined you have to somewhat have that attitude. . . otherwise nothing gets done. However, this year, if we're bombarded with school books, screaming at one another (yes, we have those days. . . we don't have the PERFECT homeschool), and we feel like we are going to claw our eyeballs out. . . we're going to take a break and go outside. In fact, I think everyday about mid-morning we will have a small snack and go on a bike ride, take Cookie on a walk, kick around the soccer ball or throw the football. . . just for a little while. . . . that way our day is much.more.enjoyable and our focus is not "let's hurry up and get finished with school".

8. Volunteer work. This has been on my heart for many, many years now. I'm not quite sure what we will be doing, but I want it to be something so my kids see a hurting world out there who desperately needs Jesus.

9. While I've concentrated on memorization every year, this year I'm picking it up a notch. Rather than memorizing scripture or portions of it, my goal is for us to memorize books of the Bible. I'm not fooling myself. I know it is a very high goal. However, I'd rather aim high and shoot low than aim low and shoot lower. . .know what I mean?

10. Less TV. Honestly I really don't like the TV. . . well it is a love/hate relationship. I think it takes away from quality family time. I want us to read more books outloud together, put together more puzzles, take more walks, more bike rides. And, just truly enjoy one another on a much, much deeper level.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...
The sunlight is glistening through the trees. Not quite as muggy as it has been. There is a crispness to the air outside.
I am thinking...
That I need to go get a doctor's tape so I can work. I think we may have French toast for breakfast this morning.
I am thankful for...
My walk at the track with Faith this morning. I'm so grateful for her and for the sweetness of our friendship. She is very dear to me.
From the learning rooms...
It's all slowly, but surely coming together. First day of school will either be this Friday or next Friday.
From the kitchen...
It is supposed to be clean!!! It was Alec's night to clean the kitchen and when I got home from core/grow group last night, it was still a mess . . .
I am wearing...
A purple running skirt and shirt to match. . . and my "Run, Girl, Run" hat.
I am creating...
lesson plans for the entire school year. . . bound and determined I am, I tell ya!
I am going...
to go and study 1 John, work out with weights, do my yoga DVD, email Kim, set Cookie's crate out for Lisa, have lunch with Granddaddy, get laundry caught up while watching "Faith like Potatoes", work on more lesson plans, and look forward to Jon getting home so I can hear about his day.
I am reading...
"Radical" by David Platt, my Bible, John MacArthur's commentary on 1 John, "A Lineage of Grace" by Francine Rivers.
I am hoping...
that I will love others as Christ loves me
I am hearing...
PBS Kids computer game on Jon's computer (the girls are playing), Ashley and Hanna's voices, the hum of my computer.
Around the house...
Needs cleaning, as always. . . story of my life **grin**
One of my favorite things...
My morning text from Jon. Since he has been working he texts me every morning around 8:00 a.m. It is one of my very favorite times of the day.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
Try and get all of my lesson plans written out, get the school room more organized, church Wed. night, Friday night youth teacher get together, Saturday Theology at Faith's house, Saturday morning going to help Mama clean out their old house, Sunday's "Radical" study. Try to squeeze some pool time in this week too.
Here is picture for thought I am sharing..
As I went to water my almost dead ferns yesterday, look what I found
Don't we serve an AMAZING God?

It's 10:10

Here it is 10:10 on a Monday night. I've almost turned into a pumpkin. . . a grumpy one at that. . . naaaahh. . . just kidding.

I did just get home from my core/grow group meeting.

The house is quiet.

My heart is full.

I go to my bedroom. There lies Jon, Ashley, Hanna, and Cookie. No where on the bed for me to lay my head.

I put Cookie in his crate, and wake Ash to go to her bed. I leave Hanna. She was actually in a position where I could get on the bed. Ash was sprawled from here to yonder.

I go check on Alec. His light is on. He is reading. . . . his Bible. Praise you LORD!!!

Tonight my core/grow group started out as normal. . . with gab, food, chattiness, and laughter. GREAT way to start an evening.

We are reading a book called, "What is the Gospel?"

I'm learning alot.

We finish and rather than just one person close in prayer, we took a few requests. Each person was to take just one request and pray over it. Choosing whether or not you would pray out loud was not an option. Each one of us one.by.one shared our hearts before our LORD and before our friends.

Have you ever been in a room and have 8 women pray before our LORD? To stand in the gap for someone? To cry out to our Father on someone else's behalf? To hurt for them? To mourn for them? To rejoice with them?

To say it was a precious time is quite the understatement!!! To say it was humbling doesn't do it justice!!!

To study God's word together will definitely draw you all closer. To pray before Him just brings you all the closer.

I'm so thankful for that group of ladies. I don't deserve to be apart of their core/grow group. I don't deserve their friendships. I don't deserve their investment into my life. But, I'M OH SO VERY THANKFUL!!!

I'm sure there are some in the group I've made mad.

I'm sure there are some I've offended.

I'm sure there are even some who I may have hurt their feelings.

We're women. We are emotional creatures. We can get mad, get our feelings hurt, get offended and sometimes friendships will end right there. Right where the heart got hurt. Even some of the longest, deepest friendships will end over a gnash of the heart. I know personally. I've been there.

God sent EACH of these ladies to me at just the perfect time in my life. He knows I NEED them! I'm learning so much from each one of them individually. I know I am very, very, very far from perfect, and I can't promise I won't make anyone mad, or hurt anyone's feelings, or offend them. However, for this season, I'm thankful they love me. . . warts and all. . .and they take me and accept me just the way I am.

If I can just take those things that I admire in them. . . things that I lack so much in. . . I pray God will plant those seeds in my heart and water them. I pray the iron I see in these ladies will sharpen whatever iron I have . . . even if it is just a dull, blunt, fragment piece of iron. . . that God will use us to sharpen one another and make us more and more like Christ.

91. For Faith's pure sweetness, sweetness in one of the purest forms I've ever seen. . . of her heart.

92. For Lisa's heart of service.

93. For Jennifer G's meekness.

94. For Angela H's knowledge and love for the Word.

95. For Jennifer S's humility and courage.

96. For Angela L's boldness.

97. For Patty's heart of compassion and tenderness.

So This Morning . . .

Jon and I had to meet up with some of our friends. . . I love meeting up with friends, but not this morning.

Jon and I are apart of a team called, "Team Impact". We are organizing a 5K/10K and all the money will go to benefit missions.

Running - Check
Friends - Check
Missions - Check
Teamwork - Check

Trying to get sponsors? Can we uncheck that one?

Neither Jon nor I are salespeople . . . at ALL!!!

Now Doug, on the other hand, could sell ice to an Eskimo.

So, this morning I'm getting ready to meet up with "Team Impact" and I am just D-R-E-A-D-I-N-G this!!!

As I was getting ready I knew I had the wrong attitude. The LORD reminded me that. . .

***I could be getting ready to go and take care of someone who is sick.

***I could be getting ready to go visit someone in the hospital who is dying of cancer.

*** I could be getting ready for a funeral.

So. . . my attitude shifted from one of complaining (inwardly) to one of gratefulness.

Perspective . . .one little word that could totally sum up our outlook on life.

Angela H. and I pair up. Ash and Hanna go with us and, guess what?

WE HAD A GREAT TIME!!!

We did. We decided to kill several birds with one stone.

Like we went to the Sock Shoppe and shopped and asked for sponsorship.

We headed to Plant Emporium for Angela to check out some things for an upcoming wedding and asked for sponsorship.

We went to Chick-fil-A and had breakfast and . . . well, we didn't ask for sponsorship, but had a yummy breakfast.

86. For attitude adjustments.

87. For laughter.

88. For sponsors . . . hopefully.

89. For Chick-fil-A biscuits.

90. For my sweet girls.

Yesterday I Demonstrated Very Well WHY I am a Runner

Yesterday. . . Sunday afternoon. . . many of my friends got to see the reason why I run.

We had a get together at our friends, John and Judy's home. The kiddos swam and the adults. . . well, most of us played a mean game of volleyball.

Now I'm very aware of my non-athleticism. In fact, I'm very forthright with people and tell them that is why I run. . . because anybody can do it. However, after 4 marathons, 1 ultramarathon, several medals from winning my 5K age group, yada, yada, yada. . . I think people don't really believe me . . .that is . . . until yesterday. . . .

I PLAY VOLLEYBALL LIKE A PRISSY, PRISSY GIRL!!!!

Which means when Trish said, "Michele, you've got to dive for the ball."

I reply, "Do I look like the kind-of girl that dives for a ball?"

Basically sums up my whole game. . . that little exchange of words.

Then, when I did get the ball over the net I jumped up and down and screamed a girly squeal like I'd won the lottery!!!! Seriously.

I actually got to demonstrate my mad volleyball skillz twice.

The first game, the LORD was so good to us. He sent rain. What fun!!! To play volleyball in the rain!! We got soaked!!! Our ages ranged from late 20s to mid-60s!!! We acted like a bunch of 12 year olds out there. . . having a BLAST!!!!

When the monsoon hit we ran for shelter. The rain cleared up and we had a new crew pull up. . . ready to get their game on!!!

Believe it or not. . . OUR team won despite them having me on their team!!! It was really a very, very close game. My team would've won much quicker had I been on the other team *smile*

Then, when I'd serve and the ball would go out right field NO WHERE near the net, I explained to everyone. "That is WHY I run. I can control which way my legs go!!!" In fact, one time I went to serve and hit one of my teammates on the back with the ball. It was like a really bad episode of "Saved by the Bell."

We had a great time of fellowship.

Guess I'd better sum up our whole weekend while I'm here.

Friday the kids and I went to a youth swim party. It was a lot of fun and I got a chance to get to know some of the girls. . . I also got a chance to get to know my new friends, Jennifer and Jessica better!

Saturday, Jon helped Doug with his roof. He was gone all day. The kids and I went over to their house and we all ate lunch together. We headed back home and I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to organize the homeschool room. I actually had planned on sewing later that night. However, my power cord to my machine is MISSING!!! I knew Jon would be beat and I'd have to entertain myself that night.

I got everyone to bed, headed downstairs with "Cookie", and read until I fell asleep.

A GREAT weekend!

81. For my sweet visit with my dear friend, Kim, today.

82. For time flying when you're having fun.

83. For my walk at the track with Faith this morning.

84. For friends who love me enough to let me play volleyball with them.

85. For a cool enough morning to take the kids on a bike ride.

Clarification

So Jon goes into work and tells his trainer, "My wife tried the 'Paul Newman'."

"What?"

"You know, the Paul Newman. You're the one who told me about it. You know the half lemonade, half sweet tea."

"No, that's called an Arnold Palmer."

I'm afraid I've rubbed off on my husband. He's acting like ME!!!!!

So I was catching Melissa up on the funny things that had happened to us this week. She then texted Jon.

"I'm going to Chick-fil-A and ordering a Phil Mickelson."

At the pool the other day I was telling my friend, Angela L., about this drink. So I knew she would think this was funny. I called her to share in my laughter. Apparently she called Doug and told him.

Jon calls me on his lunch break, "Why am I getting all of these texts about golfers?"

I told him I'd spilled the beans on him.

He texted Doug back, "Just don't order a Tiger Woods."

For Today . . .

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... It's 5:39 a.m., so it is very dark and probably muggy out there.

I am thinking... since I hardly have ANY work I'm going to go and work on getting ready for the next school year, although I'd really just love to read. . . I need to do what needs to be done first.

I am thankful for... goodness. . . SO VERY MUCH. I guess I'll just say the first thing that pops in mind . . . here it goes. . . ready? Jon and his love for me.

From the learning rooms...MESS! I've gotten this really cool idea from a friend of mine about praying for missionaries. I'll share later, I promise!!! However, it will require me rearranging things in our school room. . . YIKES!

From the kitchen... MESS!!! Not too bad. . . just not squeaky clean.

I am wearing... old PJ pants and "Truitt's Grill Run of the Mill" 5K shirt.

I am creating... well, I need to get started sewing pillow case dresses for the Brazil mission team.

I am going... to go and workout. . . hopefully. . . I've been a wee bit lazy in that department lately.

I am reading... "Radical" by David Platt, "Lineage of Grace" by Francine Rivers.

I am hoping... I will love others as Christ loves me!!!!

I am hearing... the pecking of the keyboard on my computer, the hum of my computer, and the clicking of the ceiling fan.

Around the house... so much to do. . . it really needs a good cleaning, especially before Theology class tonight.

One of my favorite things... sweet conversations about the LORD with dear friends. . . just truly delights my soul! I was honored to have 2 of these conversations just yesterday about things God was convicting me about and where he has me right now. SO VERY BLESSED!!!

A few plans for the rest of the week: Hopefully make it to "Dollar Tree", "Walmart", and "The School Box" today. . . tomorrow the pool. . . Friday a field trip then a youth swim party.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing... Hanna Boo and her sweet friend. I just love this little girl and everyone in her family as well!!! Their family is very dear and precious to our family! Can you tell they were matching in this picture?

Thought I'd share another one to show their matching outfits.
74. For coffee.

75. For slow mornings of work. I used to get in a tizzy about these times because I didn't want to miss out on any money we may need. However, I know it will get busy again. . . just the cycle it goes in. . . so I'm grateful for the downtimes.

76. For Jon's core group.

77. For Cookie, our dog.

78. For a pantry, refrigerator, and freezer full of food.

79. For good eyesight.

80. For the health of my family and that we are all together.

Talk about it Tuesday

Talking. . . I just love to talk. . . part of the sanguine in me, I guess. . . sometimes I talk way too much and my mouth can really get me into trouble.

That really has nothing to do with this post. . . I just needed a fun title . . . to blog about things I'd probably be talking to you about if we were face to face.

*** Jon's first 2 days at work have gone really well. He's been home everyday at 5:00, which has been L-O-V-E-L-Y. The last time he worked in the Atlanta area, he had a 1-1/2 hour commute. . . which put him home about 7:30 . . . not much family time during the week. Another bonus is he found out that he guy who is his direct boss happens to be known as one of the nicest guys in the company. What a blessing!!! A hard and mean boss could really make him miserable.

***Shoot fire!!! The last 2 mornings I've been up at 3:30 a.m. . . Although I do get up at 4:00, those last 30 minutes are precious. Monday I woke up early just nervous for Jon on his first day at work. This morning I was up early because I heard Jon saying in his sleep, "Alec, what's wrong, Alec. Alec, are you okay?" I thought Alec may have been having a bad dream. I got up to check on him so Jon could sleep. Come to find out I think Jon was the one having the dream. Alec was snoozing hard in his bed.

***Thankfully, I didn't have much work. After I finished I took a book I've been reading and laid on the cough. . . fell fast asleep . . . didn't get up until 8:00. Really, really nice. Well, kinda. see, I'm used to having time to myself and I don't wake up all bubbly and cheerful. . . I tend to be quiet and inward which can come across grump. I like to refer to it as "pleasantly delightful awakening" from my end anyway. . . not for my family. . . Hee!Hee! Anyway, I'm always the first one up around here for hours. . . so by the time the rest of the family wakes up, I'm all sunshine and roses.

*** Speaking of the book I've been reading. . . "Radical" by David Platt. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G doesn't do this book justice. Convicting to the very core of my being. Wow!! A must read for any devoted follower of Christ.

***Today the kids and I had lunch with Grandaddy. Very delightful I tell you. He can normally take us for about 1-1/2 hours. . . then I can tell we wear him out somewhat. We had a GREAT visit though!!! I love him and I'm so very thankful for him. I'm so thankful the kids and I can go over there and keep him company while GiGi volunteers at the hospital. Jon's Daddy is just precious. We were supposed to be there at 11:30. I actually lost track of time. I was enjoying my conservation with Faith WAY TOO MUCH!!! I see Grandaddy at our door, then looked at the clock. Oops!!! He doesn't really do well with the telephone (I guess that's why he didn't call). He came over to make sure we were still coming over there. . .

*** Last night we all watched "The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry". If you love a great, heartwarming, make you cry movie.. . . then this is one to see. Afterwards Ash was so sweet, she started making scripture bookmarks (from the book of John) for her friends. That girl can exhaust me sometimes, but she has a heart of gold.

***I'm really convicted about all the busyness I have in my life. The question at the forefront of my mind is "Does this count for eternity?" There are so many days when I push our family Bible time aside in order to go to the pool, go to the grocery store, talk on the phone, clean the house, etc., etc. Wrong, just plain wrong!!!! It is the one thing that doesn't bombard me, so it's easy to put to the side. . . yet it is clearly the BEST thing I do for my children all day long. Warring with the flesh is never an easy battle.

***I'm missing my discipleship girls. . . well both girls. . . my group of big girls (meaning ladies my age) and my group of teen girls. For about 6 months now I've been disciplining 2 teen girls. We run together, then have Bible study together. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them!!!! They are so very precious to me. I think they teach me more than I teach them. This summer I told them I'd take them to Starbucks and we would have Bible study there. We did that last week. This week they are finishing out their summer in West Virginia. They'll come back at the end of this week, then it'll be time to start school. Here's some pics of our time at Starbucks.

To have the honor to see these girls growing in the LORD is truly a gift!!!! I promised them I wouldn't post these pics on FB, since they hadn't put their makeup on after our run that morning **smile**. I assured them no one really reads my blog much :)

***I'm so excited in 2 weeks Jon and I will be teaching 9th and 10th girls and boys Sunday School. I'll have the girls. He'll have the boys. God has really laid teen girls on my heart to minister to. I knew when we left Dayspring that I was not called to teach young children anymore. . .it was great for a season, but my heart is really for teen girls right now.

*** I had a "Paul Newman" from Chick-fil-A today. Ever heard of it? The lady training Jon at work told him about it. When I asked for it by name, the lady didn't know what I was talking about. It is half lemonade and half sweet tea. Very good I tell you. I'll definitely order it again!

*** I have been really impatient with my children today. Like their chatter has been driving me crazy. I think it is PMS, but also I'm putting alot of pressure on myself to get things done. I tend to be a booger when I'm stressed and overwhelmed.

*** Our air conditioning downstairs has been messed up. It is an okay temp in our house because it is surrounded by trees. . . that is except when we have people over. The body heat tends to make it warm. Our electric bill this month was $362. I about had a FIT!!!! I can't believe it was that much and our house isn't that cool. Maybe it's the filters? Jon's going to check it out this weekend!

Told ya I like to talk!!!

68. For chocolate.

69. For hummus.

70. For my juicer.

71. For my whitening mouthwash.

72. For dental floss.

73. For making it to the gas station when I was definitely flirting with the "E" on the gas gauge.

Proceed to Checkout

About 1-1/2 weeks ago, I went into our online banking and checked our account. We'll we'd gotten through the first part of the month. . . when the mortgage and health insurance squeeze us tightly. Sheewww, big sigh of relief!!! However, the balance said roughly $2000. It looked like we would be fine until the end of this month, but after that . . .

Well, Jon always said there would be none of this 'robbing Peter to pay Paul' stuff. . . it wouldn't be okay, let's pay the electric bill and not the gas bill. . . when the money was gone, it was gone. Now, I have to say Jon's parents have graciously offered to help us financially. Thankfully, we haven't had to go to that. . . YET!

I knew financially relying on Jon's parents would be a burden that would weigh very hard on Jon. He's always told me his Daddy has worked so very hard for everything he has (became an attorney at age of 39 . . . worked full time and went to law school, all the while having 3 small children) and Jon would NEVER EVER want to do anything to cause his parents any financial hardship. I knew if we had to start borrowing money from his parents, this would weigh EXTREMELY hard on him.

Well, as I checked our balance and saw the damage I said to the LORD, "LORD, it's all yours anyway." I felt peace. . . peace amongst a storm.

For those who know us well, they know that us being financially sound is very important to us. . . not necessarily that we can go to Disney World every year . . . but that we can pay our bills on time and stay within a budget and not live above our means. In fact, sometimes I've even call Jon the "Budget Nazi". Jon's has alway said his credit score was his name.

Well, a day or so after I checked our balance, Jon got a call from a company he'd had a phone interview with, then an in-person interview. . . a company that is in Atlanta, so no move would be necessary. One Friday morning, I was on the track walking with my friends Faith and Steve during running club. For some reason Ash had my cell phone and said, "Mama, it's Daddy." Jon told me he gotten a call saying that he was 1 of 5 candidates for the job, and he was this lady's recommended top pick. I started screaming!!! Overjoyed I tell you!!!

We, of course, put out another APB for prayer. We had people praying for us I didn't even know knew our situation, people that I really didn't know very well at all. One Sunday after church several different men came up to Jon (I hadn't shared the interview news with them nor their wives) letting him know they were praying for him. Word travels fast.

Thing is, normally I'd be very anxious about something like this. I wasn't. I was just at peace . . . knowing that either a) we are in this place financially because we are being disciplined. God disciplines those He loves (Proverbs 3:12), b) God has either allowed this to happen or caused it to happen to work it for our good and His glory(Romans 8:28), c) God was carrying this burden along with us (Psalm 68:19). . . so, in essence . . . it's ALL good. If Jon got the job, GOOD!!! If Jon didn't get the job, GOOD!!! Total supernatural peace!

Thursday he had his interview. He felt it went really well. He told me as we were laying down to go to sleep, "You know, if they offer me the job, I really don't want them to call tomorrow. I just want to have time to not think about anything over the weekend." I prayed differently (why??? that's another post in and of itself). I prayed that if we were to do something I felt God calling us to do (more later), that they would call tomorrow (being Friday) if we were to be used as an instrument that I was feeling God was intending.

Friday comes. I was meeting my friend Trish at the pool. Rick was coming later on and so was Jon. I'm at the pool and see another friend, Candis, there. I enjoyed catching up with her. She's a friend from Dayspring that I don't get to talk to as much as I would like. I normally don't have my cell phone out unless one of my kids is not with me. Today, though, I knew Jon would probably be calling to see if Rick came to the pool (otherwise he wouldn't have wanted to come).

Phone rings.

I'm thinking Jon is calling to ask if Rick is coming or not.

He tells me they offered him the JOB!!! At the salary he needed!!!! However, they didn't want an answer then. . . they wanted him to take the weekend and think about it!!!

Talk about a screaming fit!!!!!!!!

Fits of laughter!!!

Fits of gratefulness!!!!

Fits of excitement!!!!

Fits of rejoicing in God's faithfulness!!!

When Rick and Trish got to the pool, I couldn't wait to share our excitement. The way I summed up my feelings to them. . .

You know when you shop online and you add things to your cart? That's been me for awhile now. . . adding things to my cart. . . yet never going beyond that point.

Now, but now, I'm so excited that I get to . . .

PROCEED TO CHECKOUT!!!

Today, after being at home for almost 3 years running our business. . . Jon has headed to midtown to his swank office building, dressed in slacks and a tie. . . ready to take on his new career.

Funny thing is, this is the BEST career opportunity he's had since college. I say funny thing. . . but not really. . . we serve a MIGHTY BIG GOD!!! Jon was really willing to settle for SO MUCH LESS!!! I guess in my mind I thought since he was willing to settle for less, then that's what we would end up with. What foolish thinking that is!!!!

This job is going to force Jon out of his comfort zone, as he will have to do some public speaking (really, really scary for him). He's told me all along in this one-year journey of trying to find a job. "I really believe the LORD is going to force me to take a job I'd otherwise never take." Jon was right. The job description clearly said public speaking . . . he applied anyway. . . desperate times call for desperate measures.

As far as our business it will still be running . . . just like we did when he worked full time before. . . .

I can't wait for his lunch break. I'll probably be on pins and needles all morning until I find out how his day is going. . .

For all who have prayed for our family, I thank you . . . from the bottom of my heart. . . I thank you.

57. For God's provision.

58. For Jon having a job.

59. For Monday through Friday, a flexible schedule, and good time off.

60. For the power of prayer.

61. For "back to work" shopping for clothes.

62. For the overwhelming amount of support from family and friends. . . all have truly, deeply and sincerely rejoiced with us!!!

63. For Mr. John and his sweet prayer over Jon last night.

64. For the excitement people have shared in us NOT having to move!!!!

65. For feeling so very loved on. . . I don't know if we would have ever felt this loved on if it wasn't for this difficult time in our life.

66. For the $60 my mom INSIST that I take in case times got much tougher. . .

67. For me being able to return her $60 to her!!!

What I Love about Hot Dogs and $5 Pizzas

Friday my friend Angela L. wanted Jon and I and the kids to come over after church today for lunch to celebrate something big (more tomorrow on that). Well, it was also a good excuse to get together. Doug just got back from Venezuela, and I know he and Jon were missing one another. These guys exercise together everyday and text back and forth all day.

Anyhoo, Saturday Doug texted Jon and said, "Are hot dogs okay?"

I just love that. I started telling Jon how when you get together with people with hot dogs and $5 pizzas (which we've done both with our closest friends), it indicates a certain degree of closeness . . . a closeness whereby you are no longer try to impress one another with your Southern Living cooking or your ability to entertain or host . . . not that I have any of those . . .

It says that let's just get together and fellowship and have a good time. It's not about the food. It's about the fellowship. It's about enjoying one another's company. I just LOVE that!!

When I was single and dating I had this silly little code. When a guy would open a door for me, if I wanted to go back out with him, when I got into the car, I'd reach over and open his door so he could get in. . . silly, I know. . .but I still do this to this day with Jon **smile**

I think now when we have someone over for $5 pizzas or hot dogs or fried bologna sandwiches or salmon patties (remember that, Lisa?), or something just so simple as that. . . it is a good indicator of a closeness and a oneness.

46. For hot dogs and potato chips, more importantly, the people we shared them with.

47. For a GREAT night at Wendy's with more feasting on good friends.

48. For a night of oneness and unity in the body of Christ.

49. For a great youth meeting about the upcoming year.

50. For old friendships that are still close even after 10+ years.

51. For new friendships in the making.

52. For friends that feel like family.

53. For people you'd turn your life upside down for in order to help.

54. For tomorrow, already known in our house as "The worst day of Hanna' life".

55. For laughter.

56. For friends that miss you when you can't make a girls' night out.

Babble. . . It's My Native Tongue

  • I'm so very excited. We got our garage cleaned out this weekend. Little things like that can just really get me excited. I've LOVED parking the car in the garage!!! So silly. . . I know, but I'm telling you. . . after not parking in a garage for 3 years, it really is exciting :)
  • We had some friends over earlier this week for dinner. With one of these friends, Jon ALWAYS talks theology. I'd asked him before the night started, "Can we just not talk theology this time?" Bless his heart, he tried to bite his lip. . . just couldn't do it!!! We all had a great time though. The next day I woke up feeling very ashamed of myself. For so long I wanted this, and then I tried to discourage it. . . shame on me!!! I'm going to tell him I'm sorry for asking him to not talk theology. It was a good night.
  • My heart is heavy for so many people right now. **A girl I play Bunco with who is a cancer fighter/survivor. She's a young mom and my heart just hurts for her. **A friend who is a career woman with a family who has a sick father. She's having to drive back and forth to Atlanta, all the while balancing a career, kids, and a husband. ** A friend who has reoccurring cancer who is a mother of 11. My heart hurts deeply for she and her family. ** A friend that I don't talk to very much anymore. . . for some reason God has just laid her on my heart to be in prayer for her. ** Another friend who is just really heavy now with some pressure he's having to deal with.
  • I don't know what has happened to my itunes library, but it has completely vanished. There is nothing on my ipod, nor in my library. I'm hoping my computer-savvy husband can figure it out for me and get all of my music back for me.
  • I'm really looking forward to some good quality time with my family.
  • All the school books are in and I started out so strong getting ready for the year. . . recently I have fizzled. I got to get the petal back to the metal. It will be here before I know it.
  • I've really got to get to Sephora. I'm all out of my Bare Minerals foundation. About the only time I fix my hair and wear makeup these days is when I go to church. I've loosened up so much I actually go WITHOUT high heels places. I saw my former pastor and his wife Sunday night. That was one of the first thigns she asked me, "Where are your high heels?" I told her it was a work of the Lord me resorting to wearing flats. She said I was just maturing **SMILE**.

41. For sweet time of prayer in our foyer with Jon and 3 friends.

42. For God's faithfulness.

43. For the lamps being turned on.

44. For children that are attentive to my feelings . . .asking me if I'm sad or not.

45. For family who gets upset if you don't return their calls quickly after they leave messages. . . ahem, Grandmama and Daddy.

Words

Words carry such great meaning to me.

Words that are meant to hurt, hurt me badly.

Words that are meant to love, love me deeply.

Words that are meant to encourage, do just that.

I just want to share some words that have meant a lot to me lately.

** Jon's mom and dad came by last night. Jon has his 3rd interview with a company in Atlanta today. He is one of five being considered for the job. She said to him, "I no one one there can match you in integrity. Our prayer is that your integrity will show forth."

** A friend of ours was sharing with me some things. He said, "That's why we want _____ (their child) to hang around Alec. Alec is spiritually mature for his age."

**With this pending interview, we've had many people offer words of encouragement . . . words, texts, and emails of prayers being lifted up for our family.

**From Stephanie . . . a text that said, "Your blog is my favorite part of my mornings at work :) I hope you get to feeling 100%.

36. For our church family.

37. For a good run this morning after being sick.

38. For being over the summer crud.

39. For a husband who is true to his word.

40. For joy and peace during uncertain times.

Yada Yada This. . . Yada Yada That

** I think I am on the tail end of an awful summer sickness I've had the last 2 days. Thankfully I am not sick very often. . . but when I am. . . I'm a big baby. . . I just lay around ALL day long. Although today I feel so much better, I can tell I'm not 100%. I'm going to have to really taper myself down today. Normally I'm a busy bee and I don't like much idle time. . . therefore, I can't go full steam ahead because I don't want my body to revert back to being sick.

**As far as the Jacksonville job. . . we've got NOTHING!!! We heard nothing back, even though Jon felt really good about it. Normally he's pretty on the money with these sorts of things. My prayer was "Lord, if this is not YOUR will, please don't let them call back. It will be too hard of a decision to make if offered the job."

**I have been in homeschooling planning mode over the last week. I'm determined to have our whole year mapped out, with copies made, the year planned, hands-on activities organized, etc. by the time we start school come middle of August. I've really made a great start. I'm going to have to be this way (totally out of my nature to be organized) in order to have a successful school year. With Alec starting 8th grade, I have to prepare for high school in order to prepare for college.

** On that note, Alec is saying right now that he really wants to go to The Naval Academy. I don't want him not to have an opportunity because I failed or slacked him in anyway. Thankfully, we're early enough on everything and it's not too late to start getting him in the classes, volunteering, leadership roles, athletics, SAT preparation that they require. If he changes his mind and decides he'd rather go somewhere else. . . then that is fine. . . at least we've prepared him for a tough school to get into. And. . . they have admitted homeschoolers in the past also!!!!

**We've had some real gully washers here the last few days. While I'm typically a sunshine and roses type of girl . . . the rain has been really refreshing. We've really needed it!!!

**I started painting a small hallway that goes to our garage and up our stairs to the homeschool room about 5 months ago. Noticed . . I STARTED. . . however, I never finished it. Typically I can't not finish a project. However, I've been much more relaxed over the last year and less hard on myself than in the past. I really do need to finish it before school starts.

** Work has been really slow. . . that is typical. I call it the summer slowdown. However, as soon as all the schools start back. . . people start getting sick and it will get really busy again. I'm trying to take advantage of the slowness and prepare for school.

**My girls and I have been watching "Anne of Green Gables". I remember watching it as a little girl. I'm so loving it and so are my girls. I think this needs to go down as one of my all time favorite movies. I think when I'm introducing myself to someone new I may say, "My name is Michele, with one 'l'." Anne can really use some great adjectives and descriptive words. We have a new writing program for this year we're going to be doing. I'm hoping my children will learn to write like she speaks :)

**We've really enjoyed swimming and hanging out at the pool this summer with our friends. It is one of our most favorite summer activities.

**We've had a lot of kid swaps this summer. I just love having a house full of kiddos.

**We've been having a theology class at our house this summer on Wed. nights. Jon and I got the chance to take this class at our church, but the people who are coming didn't get to take it because of helping in another area or choir practice. I keep all the kiddos upstairs with me. I know they are all enjoying having theological debates. I love Jon catching me up on the discussions they have.

**We had our last night of Bible study for a few weeks Monday night. We finished "Respectable Sins" and will be starting a book about the Gospel in a few weeks. Angela is going to be gone on a mission trip. Angela L. will be going to the beach. Jennifer's husband is going on a mission trip to Venezuela. Needless to say a big chunk of our group will be gone so we decided to take the rest of the month off.

31. For a clearer head and less stuffy nose.

32. For a husband who takes care of me when I'm sick.

33. For a husband who doesn't care if the house is a mess.

34. For a splurge of energy.

35. For friends and family who check on me when I'm not feeling well and offer to help.

Just Call Me Mrs. Spontaneity

I am not very spontaneous. I really prefer to plan things out. . . although I'm not like "Type A" planner. . . I just prefer to have things planned out. . . . on the 'calendar' sort-of things.

For example, a few months back on a Saturday, Lisa called and said, "Hey, let's go see 'Dear John' tonight." Me: "What?!? Girl, that is too spontaneous for me. . . let's do it when we can plan it." I also think we had planned a family night at home that night too.

Anyhoo. . . that's just the way I roll . . . sometimes.

Ash had a sleepover Friday night. Faith was going to take Ash and her daughter to the sleepover and I was going to pick them up the next morning. Before it was time to take the girls to Faith's (Maddie, KJ, and 'Flash' had spent the day with us), she gave me a buzz and said, "Why don't you just leave Hanna and Alec here (he was already there), and you and Jon go have an evening to yourselves?"

At first I thought we were going to have to meet someone about a car we are selling. That fell through. I called Jon and he and I jumped all over a time to have a date together.

We had just a great time. We had a gift card, so we didn't have to worry about spending money. After our date we went to Books-a-Million and browsed around. FUN!FUN!FUN! It was really great just to have him all to myself . . .

We picked up Hanna and Alec, visited with Faith and Steve for a little bit, and then headed back to the hacienda.

See how spontaneous that was?

Well, spontaneity herself hit me right in the face twice this weekend!!!

Saturday morning, Lisa sent out a FB message to Faith, Jennifer, and I. Lisa's been in Ohio for close to 2 weeks and she just got back into town Friday night. We needed a catch-up night! So, we all decided to get $5 Little Ceasar's Pizza and get together at our house. The men have all been wanting to watch 'Gladiator'. We made the family room a "No KID zone". The girls and I camped out in the dining room and tried to keep all doors closed. Our laughter and talking got loud at times. . . so much so the guys declared the family room a "No WIFE zone". I think the next time they want to watch a movie they're going to send the wives and kids to another house . . . ***smile***

As everyone was gathering in our house, I just quietly thanked the Lord for my sweet friends. I love how comfortable we all are with one another. I love that we all love one another's kids. I love that we all get onto one another's kids, if needed. I love that the kids will come into the house without knocking . . . I love it when they enter the back door. I love the laughter, the pitter-pounding, thunderous sound of feet heard over our heads. I love that at ANYTIME my friends can come to my house and see it in a gross mess and love me just the same and really not think anything about it. I love that our husband's enjoy one another. I love that we all laugh (think that I already said that. . . but it's worth mentioning twice). I love that we do kid swaps and trust one another with our most precious treasures on earth. I love that we have a freedom to vent to one another. I love that we can disagree and not get our feelings hurt. I love that Lisa is glad to be home (GA home, not Ohio home). I think I might just christen her a Georgia Peach!

26. For turning the lamps around the house on.

27. For coke spewing all over the kitchen. It makes for a good laugh the next day.

28. For high-strung Dads.

29. For Jennifer's yummy salads.

30. For my dining room table piled with homeschool curriculum, ideas galore, and the friends who surrounded it.

10 on the 10th

It's time for Mer's 10 on the 10th. Because I can't spend any extra money right now. . . I'm going to list 10 things I want to spend money on when Jon gets a job.

1. Road Bike. Since Jon did his triathlon, now I really want to do one. Unfortunately my $89 mountain bike isn't going to cut it. I can't be competitive with it. I really need a road bike and they cost big bucks. Jon's researching it though . . . so, hopefully, if he gets a job or sells a house, I can get a bike.

2. A Living Well Health Master. You've probably seen these on TV. Montel Williams promotes them. It is an amazing blender. While I'd really love a Vitamix, the Health Master is a fraction of the cost . . . so . . . I'll settle.

3. Run a 5K. I just really am itching to do one. . . but, I gotta have some dough first.

4. Go to Bone Fish with my friends . . . maybe for lunch one day . . .when the hubbies can keep the kids. . . and maybe, just maybe squeeze in a pedicure.

5. One of these watches. . . well, not a Fossil (too expensive) . . . but a cheaper, more generic version.

6. A new swimsuit. . . just 'cause I always buy a new swimsuit every year. . . and, I have a $25 gift card to Victoria's Secret. BUT, all of their swimsuits are much more than $25.

7. I'd really love for Jon and I to take a small mini-vacay somewhere. . . even if it is SSI. We would want to eat out, so we just need to be frugal and responsible and wait until we aren't struggling so much financially.

8. New accessories. . . man, I want some new accessories. I have PURPOSEFULLY stayed far, far away from Serendipity because I know if I enter their doors, I will not have ANY willpower to resist.

9. As if 8 things weren't enough, I honestly cannot think of anything else right now. Should I be ashamed I have 8 things on my mental list of "things to buy when Jon gets a job" or be excited that I couldn't complete the full 10?

10. Nevermind, one more thing I want to spend $$$ on . . . I want to pay off ALL our stinkin' debt. . . so, I guess if we're going to do that, I'd better scrap the other 8 things I want to spend $$$ on.

21. Kids who have bright enough imaginations they can play by themselves . . . who set up things in the garage to play with.

22. A mama's girl who cried because she thought someone was saying unkind things about me.

23. Sweet baby coos (Emory) I heard over the phone while talking to my little sister this morning.

24. Job interviews.

25. Good morning hugs and kisses.

1000 Thanks

I just love reading my sweet friend, Elizabeth's blog. She's been doing this thing where she will end her posts with things she's grateful for. It just makes my heart full of joy to read her list. Since I am so unoriginal and will freely admit I love to be a copycat. . . I'm totally copying her. Isn't it said that "imitation is the best form of flattery"? It will be really cool to see how long it takes me to reach 1000. Who knows, I may like this so very much I may not end there. You know my philosophy, "Go BIG or go home".

1. For my Savior, Jesus Christ, who took on my penalty for sin and died for me.

2. For a wonderful husband who tellls me he loves me numerous times a day. . . that he is very affectionate and warm and kind and caring.

3. For 3 wonderful bambinos that love me despite all of myself.

4. For a night to lay in bed with thu baaabbbby and watch the lightening light up the sky and just talk.

5. For books.

6. For sweet friends who lovingly and willingly keep your kids so you can go on a date with your hubby.

7. For a mom who provided us with a gift card to eat out on. . . all we had to spend was $5 for a tip.

8. For a little sister who doesn't begrudge or get mad because I don't talk to her as much as I do Melissa.

9. For a job. Although there are times I really despise it. . . I get to be at home with my babies, make my own schedule, and the money is good.

10. For air conditioning and ceiling fans.

11. For hot summer nights where the rain pours down and cools off the earth.

12. For wonderful, encouraging, like-minded friends who pray for you, rejoice when you rejoice and mourn when you mourn . . . who just happen to love to laugh just as much as I do.

13. For a note that was hand delivered this past week who said, "That is from the LORD".

14. For the person who wrote the note and the sweet words it contained.

15. For texting. I just love a quick text to say what you need to say.

16. For my dog. . . yes, I've become one of those people who love their dogs.

17. For good health for me and my family.

18. For coffee.

19. For grace. . . God's grace.

20. For homeschooling my children.

Wordless Wednesday

Well. . . I'm no photographer . . . at ALL!!! All of those creative genes went to my sister, Melissa. However, I did get this really cool picture of Hanna while we were in SSI. My SIL was cat sitting, and Hanna Boo was in L-O-V-E!!!
